Scope and Contents

This series chronicles the rise of organ manufacturers, including companies such as Estey Organ Company, Mason and Hamlin Organ and Piano Company, Story and Clark Organ Company, and The Rudolph Wurlitzer Company. The collection spans the dates 1858 through 1993, with the bulk spanning 1900 through 1950. It contains mostly manufacturing literature in the following formats: catalogs, books, photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, periodicals, advertisements (newspaper and magazine), postal covers, trade cards, post cards, broadsides, and repair manuals. A small portion of the collection contains novelty items, including a set of checkers, pins, a fan, a folding knife, and engraved name plates.
The series is arranged according to the original order imposed by the indexes compiled by the collector; therefore, the arrangement reflects the donor's organizational schema. The arrangement is alphabetical and chronological.
